Museum Moments 

Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee staff for moments from Jewish history via Facebook Live. Museum Moments will occur Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. at Facebook.com/JewishMuseumMilwaukee. In July, Jewish Museum Milwaukee will be working to re-open their doors safely to the public, and therefore will slightly lessen virtual offerings.

Jews and comedy 

“Make ‘Em Laugh: Jews and Comedy.” Join Professor Gillian Rodger of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts, Music Department, and JCC Judaic Education Director Jody Hirsh for a six-week summer course exploring the history of Jews in comedy, complete with hilarious video clips, and lively discussion. Professor Rodger’s research is in popular comic theater, variety and vaudeville with a specific focus on comic song and singing. This summer course will be offered on Zoom. Virtual Levi Strauss 

Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 15 for a virtual tour of the Levi Strauss Exhibit. In partnership with the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, the exhibit explores the story of 19th century Jewish immigrant Levi Strauss, including his journey from Bavaria to California, the establishment of Levi Strauss & Co., the history of the gold rushera San Francisco, and the popularization of blue jeans into the 21st century. An educator at the Contemporary Jewish Museum will guide you through the exhibition virtually, share a presentation, pose questions, and field comments and questions. Book Club: Julius Rosenwald 

Join Jewish Museum Milwaukee for their Book Club with Julius Rosenwald at noon on July 23 Hasia R. Diner will share insights from her book, “Julius Rosenwald: Repairing the World.  Diner is a Milwaukee native and eminent historian. She isthe Paul and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History and director of the Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History at New York University. The Woman in Gold 

Join the HERC, with attorney E. Randol Schoenberg, on July 22, at 7:40 p.m. for The Woman in Gold. E. Randol Schoenberg is of-counsel and the co-founding partner of Burris, Schoenberg & Walden. Schoenberg litigated the Republic of Austria v. Altmann case, in which he sought return of six famous Klimt paintings to his client. After persuading the U.S. Supreme Court that Maria Altmann could sue Austria for return of the paintings, he agreed to arbitrate the dispute in Austria. In January 2006, the arbitration panel decided that the paintings, valued at over $325 million, should be returned to Altmann. This event can be viewed via the HERC Facebook page.
