Janice Lynn Berlin

Janice Lynn Berlin of Mequon died Feb. 29, 2020. She was 77.

She is survived by spouse Irv Berlin.

Janice was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Milwaukee. Cherished mother of Shari (Jon Nemeth) Matras and Laurie (Bob) Gross. Survived by many others, including grandchildren.

Funeral service with Congregation Shalom was March 3. Interment at Second Home Cemetery with assistance from Goodman-Bensman Funderal Home, Rabbi Noah Chertkoff and Cantor Karen Berman.

Dr. Jay Galst

Jay M. Galst, M.D., 69, beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully after a brave battle with the coronavirus.

Dr. Galst, born in Wisconsin, obtained a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1972. He moved to New York City with his wife, Joann, for medical school at Columbia University. He was an ophthalmologist in private practice in Manhattan for many decades and recently joined Omni Eye Services to continue to see his patients. He was a clinical professor at the New York Medical College, a senior attending surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and an honorary surgeon of the New York City Police Department. He was on the board the Museum of Vision and Chairman of the Collections Committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

An avid coin collector, Jay was knowledgeable about a broad range of numismatics but specialized primarily in the coins of Judea and ophthalmology. He served as president of the New York Numismatic Club (1988-1989). His many other hobbies included playing a round of golf at Fenway Golf club, going to a concert at the New York Philharmonic, traveling to different countries with his wife, Joann, and enjoying a good steak and a bottle of red wine over a dinner at the Palm with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Joann, his son, David (Sarah), his granddaughter, Juliana, his mother, Phyllis Galst (nee Tannenbaum), and a loving extended family, all of whom he adored. Preceded in death by his father, Julian Galst.

Burial with Second Home Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Numismatic Society-New York, American Academy of Ophthalmology-San Francisco or American Cancer Society. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.

Suzanne Goldstein

Suzanne Goldstein, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2020, at 94 years young.

Suzanne was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Rose and David Davis. She attended courses at Brooklyn College while working as a bookkeeper in New York City. She married her beloved husband, the late Harold Goldstein, and settled in Brooklyn where they raised three beautiful girls. Suzanne was active in her community, volunteering with the PTA, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, and acting as a tenants rights advocate, for which she received an award in 1976 for her service. She volunteered for Frank Barbaro, an New York State assemblyman, and was a member of the Bensonhurst Independent Democrats. Suzanne decided to return to work as a bookkeeper for JBC courier service in NYC for 18 years until her retirement in 1995. She and Harold retired that same year and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she would call her home for 25 years until her passing.

Suzanne was a strong and selfless woman. She and Harold volunteered at the Harry and Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and won the Fannie Kesselman Senior Service Award together in the early 2000s. Suzanne enjoyed being a member of the National Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA and a proud supporter of the Jewish National Fund. She was extremely philanthropic and donated to various charities close to her heart. Her love of knitting and crocheting allowed her to donate hats and blankets for newborns in the hospital. Suzanne loved to keep busy and took various jewelry, art, and cooking classes.

Family was extremely important to Suzanne. She was the epitome of a true mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished trips to the museum and the zoo with her grandchildren when they came to visit. Her apartment was filled with pictures of her loving family. Her love of cooking was demonstrated by Sunday night family dinners and Chanukah parties, where no one left hungry.

Suzanne was the wonderful mother to Gail Komisar, and her husband Martin, Donna Adelglass, and her husband Evan, and Melanie Rosen, and her husband Eric. She was a loving grandmother to Randi Schachter, and her husband Eric, Bradley Komisar and his wife Sarah; Rebecca, Brett, and Jeffrey Adelglass; Rachel and Ilana Rosen. She was an adoring great-grandmother of Jordan and Sloan Schachter and Simon Komisar. She was forever grateful to Enid Bootzin of Hearts to Home, and her caregivers Alma and Angie, for their years of care and love.

A service to honor Suzanne’s memory with her friends and family will be held at a later date. Dr. Robert Gordon

Robert “Bob” Gordon, D.D.S., of Bayside, and originally from Racine, died Jan. 17, 2020.

Beloved husband of Harriet Gordon. Dear father of Julie, Lori and Dr. Michael Gordon. Further survived by his nephews, other relatives and wonderful friends. Family was everything to him. Nothing made him happier than to gather his family at the table to talk about their lives always asking many a question.

As an orthodontist in the North Shore for over 45 years who lived and breathed his profession, he was known for helping his patients develop magnificent smiles – something that patients gladly loved to show off whenever they ran into him around town. His personal belief in the importance of education extended to his commitment to teaching at Marquette University School of Dentistry and the orthodontics program for more than 50 years.

His ability to make friends everywhere he went was a result of his quick wit, genuine interest in others and desire to help those around him succeed. He was a voracious reader of books and newspapers, loved to travel, attend the theater and support causes dear to him in the community.

He will be greatly missed by his adoring family and all whose lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing to those who knew and loved him.

Funeral service was January 22, at Congregation Shalom, burial at Mound Zion Cemetery. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.

Perry S. Granof

The best human. Loving and cherished husband of Carol nee Gregor. Proud and devoted father of Sarah, Arielle, and Natanya. Dear brother of Lorry (Ellen) Granof, Corinne (Vincent) Tomkiewicz and brother-in-law of Betty (Jack) Sindorf, David (Carol Kriescher) Gregor, Jim (Cindy) Gregor, and the late Jay (Patty) Gregor. Adored uncle of many. He was a proud Zionist and a passionate family man who loved being Jewish. A respected lawyer and arbitrator guided by his integrity, curiosity, and perseverance. The world has lost a kind soul, brilliant mind, and the brightest light.

Marilyn Jacobs

Marilyn Jacobs (nee Schain) died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2020. She was 87.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert Jacobs. Cherished mother of Gary (Ann) Jacobs, Judy (Dr. Mark) Paschen, Melody (Nadav) Cassuto, and Jonathan (Ann) Jacobs. Loving grandmother of Aaron (Susie) Jacobs, Caleb (Tara) Jacobs, Mitch (Naomi) Paschen, Adam Paschen, Joel Paschen, Guy (Karina) Cassuto, Shimrit Cassuto, Sigalit Cassuto, Sam Jacobs, and Ben Jacobs. Dear great-grandmother of Samantha and Amy Jacobs, Eliana Jacobs, Ava, Noah and Leah Paschen. Dear sister of Barbara (Bill) Spitz and sister-in-law of the late Bruce (the late Jane) Jacobs and the late Sherwood (the late Seema) Gorens. Annabelle Loeb

Annabelle (Anosov) Loeb, a gracious, fun-loving lady who had a zest for life, died Wednesday, April 15.

Annabelle was born the youngest child of Nathan and Jennie Anosov on February 7, 1920, in Milwaukee. She graduated from North Division High School and worked for many years in Milwaukee and Chicago before her marriage, in 1954, to Archie Loeb. Her life was centered on her family. She was a loving wife, a fantastic mother, a wonderful grandmother, and a caring aunt. Annabelle always had a smile on her face and always made time for company.

Annabelle had an abiding belief in the importance of giving back to her community. For years she was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Saturday Club and Temple Menorah.

Annabelle loved to tell stories; she was good at it. She was a constant kidder who loved to laugh. Her humor and her gentleness made her much loved by her children’s friends as well as her family. She could make conversation with anyone.

Her smile and love will be greatly missed by her daughter, Jan (Marc Shovers) Madison; daughter-in-law Kellie Loeb; her five grandchildren: Patsy (Andrew Nadder), Morgan, and Seanna Loeb, Sam and Ben Shovers, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Annabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Archie in 2015, her son Neal in 2018; her siblings Elizabeth, Sam, Louis, Morris, Norman. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Barbara Perchonok

Barbara M. Perchonok (nee Margulis) died April 21. She was 85.

Beloved wife and best friend of the late Frederick Perchonok for 64 wonderful years. Cherished mother of Robert (Michele) and Michael (Wendy) Perchonok. Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Aaron, Jacob (Danielle) and Jessica Perchonok. Dear sister of Teresa (the late Bill) Fisher. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.

Paula Ruby

Paula (Schultz) Ruby of Fox Point died May 16, 2020. She was 92.

Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Chicago, she was predeceased by spouse William Ruby in 2015.

Survivors include sons Robert (Marilyn) Ruby and Stuart (Patrice) Ruby; grandchildren Matthew (Kelly) Ruby, Michael (Andrea) Ruby, Elissa (Joshua) Light, Margaret Ruby, and Sarah Ruby. Great-grandchildren Asher, Abram and Estelle Ruby; David and Gabrielle Ruby; and Abigail and Jacob Light.

Place of Burial was Spring Hill Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, the family planned a private funeral and burial service. Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home assisted the family.

Gary E. Sapiro

Gary E. Sapiro died May 18, 2020. He was 73.

Beloved husband of Barbara Sapiro (nee Friedland). Loving stepfather of David (Jenna) Turner, Lisa (significant other Mark Willets) Turner, and dear step-grandfather of Joshua Turner. Fond brother of Steve (Lisa) Sapiro and Dan (Suzanne LaFleur) Sapiro. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.

A private graveside service was held at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery. Rabbi Noah Chertkoff officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions made to American Cancer Society or Congregation Shalom appreciated.

Dr. Alan Shlimovitz

Dr. Alan M. Shlimovitz died March 2, 2020. He was 78.

Son of Irene and Lewis Shlimovitz, of blessed memory. Beloved husband of the late Fay Shlimovitz (nee Ghingis-Robinson) and loving companion of Susan Marcus (nee Becker). Cherished father of Anne (Tim Schneider) Shlimovitz, Dr. Cary (Aviva) Shlimovitz, Paul Amitai and Rabbi Ben (Dorothy Hager) Shlimovitz. Proud grandfather of Ariana, Eli and Sophie Shlimovitz; Aiden Schneider and Rui Amitai. Dear brother of Gary (Ruth) Shlimovitz and brother-in-law of Alice (Abby) Lev. Further survived by Susan’s children: Debra (Michael) Watton, Dr. Mindy (Dr. Peter) Graskamp and Jodi (Steve) Weber; grandchildren: Melissa, Jake, Erin, Sam, Maddie, Jack and Spencer; and many dear friends.

Alan was born in Milwaukee in 1941 and grew up on the city’s West Side. He graduated from Washington High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi. Alan continued his studies at Marquette University Dental School, where he was president of the Alpha Omega dental fraternity. Alan served as a US Army captain, including one year in Vietnam. He practiced dentistry for over forty years.

Alan studied Torah, practiced tai chi and played saxophone. His love of music extended to his work as a board member of Ruach. Alan was a longtime member of Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah synagogue.

Funeral service was March 4. Interment at Second Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Jewish Community Food Pantry, Ruach, Hunger Task Force, Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah or the charity of your choice appreciated. Susan Ann Zukrow-Mackevich

Susan Ann Zukrow-Mackevich has died. Beloved wife of Jeffrey Mackevich. Loving mother of Rani Mackevich Stephanie (Collin Love) Mackevich and Carolyn Mackevich. Devoted daughter of the late Edward and Nita Zukrow. Dear sister of Rabbi Leonard (Karen) Zukrow and Alan Zukrow. Fond aunt of Rachel (Jonah Schein) Zukrow and Michael (Isabel Parilis) Zukrow.
