Sheldon “Shelley” L. Burchman, M.D.

Sheldon “Shelley” L. Burchman, M.D., of Mequon, died on Sept. 24, 2019. He was 91.

He was born in the Bronx in New York City on April 4, 1928.

He was predeceased by wife Hinda Burchman, daughter Lori Burchman, sister Grace Borowitz and brother Leonard Burchman. Survived by his son Philip (Robyn) Burchman and grandson Brian Burchman. Dr. Burchman was an emeritus professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Graveside services were Sept. 27 at Second Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Jewish National Fund would be appreciated.

Herbert Giller

Herbert Giller died Oct. 8, 2019. He was 97.

Beloved husband of the late Ruth Giller. Dear father of Dr. Roger (Jill) Giller, Tom (Nida Montifalcon) Giller and preceded in death by daughter-in-law Jessica Radolf. Loving grandfather of Daniel (Nichole) Giller; Julian (Mai) and Louis Giller. Adoring great-grandfather of Oliver Giller. Special thanks to his caregivers for their compassionate care.

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the only child of Julius and Bertha Giller. At a young age, the family relocated to Madison, where his mother’s extended family lived after immigrating from Russia in the early 20th century. In his early years, Herb grew up living above the family’s restaurant on State Street, prompting his lifelong affection and support for the University. He attended college and medical school in Madison, where he met Ruth Lessin, also a student at the University. They were married for 69 years until her death in 2015. Herb went on to train in ophthalmology at the Boston Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School. He served in the Navy Medical Corps during World War II and then the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War, stationed in Osaka, Japan. After his military service, the family returned to Milwaukee, where he practiced for more than 40 years. Herb was active in the medical community, numerous philanthropies and the Jewish community. He loved the outdoors and was an avid walker, tennis player, sailor and golfer throughout his life. He was a committed family man, a good friend to many and an admired physician.

Forest Hill Cemetery and Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted the family, with Rabbi Jonathan Biatch. Burial was Oct. 15, 2019.

Shirley K. Hirschbein

Shirley K. Hirschbein died Oct. 5, 2019. She was 95.

She was born Feb. 23, 1924. Hirschbein (nee Klein) was preceded in death by Charles Price (1969) and Carl Hirschbein (1991). Shirley loved her family, friends, Judaism, education and theater; she was an avid reader and had many adventures traveling overseas. Attending synagogue services and Jewish study groups were a source of great joy.

Shirley is survived by her sister Rochelle (Jack) Weidenfeld; her children Phyllis Bankier (Ted Tousman), Evelyn Price and Steven Price; her grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Halaska, Carmel (Mark) Sweet and her beloved great-grandchildren Hannah and Ariana Halaska, Micah and Ellie Sweet.

Graveside services were Oct. 6, 2019 at Mound Zion Cemetery. Donations supporting KOACH of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center are welcome. Rabbi Jessica Barolsky and Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted the family.

Laurence Jay Love

Laurence Jay Love, son of the late Ruth and Saul Love of Thiensville, died June 27,  2019, at his home in Maryland.

Larry, born and raised in Milwaukee, is survived by his beloved wife Marsha, his adored sons Nicholas (Sara) Love, Benjamin Love, and cherished grandson Jonah Love. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison and Marquette Law School. Larry was an attorney and had a long and distinguished career as counselor to the commissioner of Social Security. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, love of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and love of traveling. Memorial service held at his residence to celebrate his life.

Julian “Bud” Newman

Julian “Bud” Newman of Denver died Sept. 6, 2019. He was 88.

Loving husband of Syril Foster Newman. Dear father of David (Laura Orgel) Newman, Jonathan (Pamela Frank) Newman, Debra (Charles) Olins, Miriam Newman Jacobson and stepfather of Geri Berg. Treasured grandfather of 10. Further survived by other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Graveside services were Sept. 9, 2019 at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, The Denver Hospice or Kavod Senior Life. Rabbis Steven Foster and Dena Feingold assisted the family.

Seymour Wasser

Seymour Wasser of Mequon died Sept. 18, 2019. He was age 96.

He was born Aug. 2, 1923.

Survived by wife AnnaBelle Wasser (nee Segall); married for 69 years. Cherished father of Ellen (Mitchell) Cairo and Linda Wasser Brodsky. Adoring grandfather of Dustin (Elana) Cairo, Evan Cairo, Sam Brodsky and Ben Brodsky. Dear brother of Rosalie (Raymond) Harkavy. Further survived by other nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services were Sept. 20, 2019 at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid. Interment at Agudas Achim Cemetery. Memorials to Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid or the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, 17932 Sky Park Circle Suite E, Irvine, CA 92614.
