The 2019 Milwaukee Film Festival will be showing a handful of Jewish and Israel-related films at various theaters around the area from Oct. 17-31.
“Abe” is about a 12-year-old boy who explores his love of cooking. But with one Jewish grandparent and two Palestinian grandparents, he’s been placed at the center of a conflict. “Abe” runs Oct. 26 at 10:15 a.m. and Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
“Advocate” explains the Israel/Palestinian conflict through the eyes of an Israeli human rights lawyer. This film will be showing Oct. 23 at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.
“Fig Tree” and “Synonyms” are about an Ethiopian teen fleeing to Israel from civil war and Jewish immigrants to Paris, respectively. “Fig Tree” is on Oct. 20 at 1:15 p.m., Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. “Synonyms” is on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
Young people are their authentic selves in the shorts program covering topics including youth in Israel and Palestine. The shorts program is Oct. 19, 20 and 27.
