Jeffrey Berlin

Jeffrey Berlin of Cedarburg died Aug. 16, 2019. He was 67.

Born Aug. 9, 1952 in Milwaukee. Beloved father of Samantha Berlin and Jennifer Berlin. Dear brother of Randee (Marty) Matsoff, the late Gayle Riches, and Shelley (Todd) Parrish. Loving grandfather of Eli James Berlin. Also survived by close friend Gary Rattner. Further survived by other relatives and friends. The family requested private services. Memorial contributions to the Wisconsin Humane Society are appreciated. Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted the family.

Jerry Fine

Jerry Fine of Bayside died Aug. 10, 2019. He was 83.

Born Oct. 9, 1935 in Milwaukee, he graduated from University of Wisconsin in 1957 and University of Wisconsin Law School in 1962.

Jerry was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and was with Ritz Holman LLP  as a CPA.

He is survived by wife Paula; daughters Leslie (Peter) Clifford; Alyson (Randy) Kaiser; granddaughters Sydney and Lizzie Kaiser and Nadia Clifford.

Burial was Aug. 13, 2019, with assistance from Rabbi Jessica Barolsky, Cantor David Barash and Suminski/Weiss Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Rabbi Dudley Weinberg Library Fund (CEEBJ), 2020 W. Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, WI 53217.

Lawrence Jon Mautner

Lawrence Jon Mautner of Franklin died on Sept. 3, 2019. He was 85.

He was born May 18, 1934 in Milwaukee. He graduated from Washington High School in 1951. He followed the stock market and was interested in classical music and sports.

Cherished father of Laura (John) Emanuelson and Lynn Mautner. Loving grandfather of Tyler, Timmy, Katie, Sophia, Brady and Aurora Emanuelson, Nicholas, Kelli (James) Banach, Ryan, Tyler and Collin Mautner. Great-grandfather of Cayden, Paxton, and Adelyn Banach. Dear friend of Janice Paulitz. Further survived by other loving relatives and dear friends.

A graveside service was held Sept. 5 at Mound Zion Cemetery in Brookfield. Rabbi Ron Shapiro assisted, with Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home. Paul Howard Melrood

Paul Howard Melrood died peacefully of old age (aha”sh) on Aug. 21, 2019, surrounded by loving family. He was 99.

Born May 1, 1920 in Podolya, Ukraine, he immigrated with his parents as a young child. He graduated from North Division High School and obtained a degree in art education at Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1941. He served as captain and major in the U.S. Air Force 1941-45.

Paul had a successful five-decade career in real estate and was proud past president of the University of Wisconsin – Milwakee Alumni Foundation Board of Directors. The son of Yiddish language and culture educators, Paul was a leading speaker and promoter of the Yiddish language. He played numerous leads with the Peretz Hirschbein Folk theater and entertained thousands with his original radio programs and skits. Paul served with the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund, active member of the Labor Zionist Organization of America, and president of the International Association of Yiddish Clubs.

Predeceased by parents Sonia and Mordecai Melrood, and wife Gertrude in 1980. Survived by loving wife Marlene and family, children Laurie (Blake), Elise (Susan), and Armin.  Also dear brother Eugene (Ede), nephews and numerous cousins, beloved friend Carl Mueller and family.

Private burial was at Mound Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations welcomed to Ovation Jewish Home and the Institute for Jewish Research. Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted the family.

Jeannette “Jeri” Siegel

Jeannette “Jeri” Siegel of Glendale died Sept. 4, 2019. She was 95.

Jeannette was born May 17, 1924 in Milwaukee. She was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun.

Survivors include Donald (Dianne) Siegel, Bernard (Harlene) Siegel, Daniel Siegel, Debra Siegel, Douglas (Kris) Siegel, Sari (Rony) Levy, Michele (Kevin) McMahon, Benjamin (Jan) Siegel and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Burial was at Second Home Cemetery on Sept. 8, 2019. Rabbi Jessica Barolsky and Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to Congregation Emanu-EL B’ne Jeshurun, 2020 W. Brown Deer Road, River Hills, WI 53217.

Muriel Silbar, M.D.

Muriel Silbar, M.D., of Fox Point, died Sept. 4, 2019. She was 95.

She was born June 16, 1924 in Syracuse, New York.

Beloved mother of Dr. Margo (Dr. James) Hudson and Dr. Elliott (Lauren) Silbar. Dear grandmother of James (Eli Sheva) Hudson and Rebecca (Mike) Herczfeld; Rachel (Matthew) Taylor, Sydney and Lyndsey Silbar. Treasured great-grandmother of four. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was a pioneer in medicine, being one of only four women in her medical school class of 1947 at Syracuse University. She spent her career serving the patients of the Milwaukee County Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Charles Bomzer for his compassionate care and caregiver Mary Torrence for her years of devotion.

Private services were held. Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery on Sept. 8, 2019. Cantor Richard Newman and Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted the family. Memorials to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, American Cancer Society or Congregation Sinai.

Benjamin Charles Zitron

Benjamin Charles Zitron of New York died at the age of 82 on Aug. 9, 2019. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Sarah (nee Brodsky) and Arthur Zitron. Dear brother of Michelle (Gerald) Bodner. Devoted father of Anne (the late David) Casey, Jennifer Suomi, Alison Zitron and Barnett (Lindsey Todres) Zitron. Proud grandfather of Sam (Nicole) Casey, Clara Casey, Olivia Suomi, Arthur Leo Zitron and great-grandfather of Teddy Casey. Loving former husband of Sharon (Ted) Pincus and Amy Zitron. He is also survived by three loving nephews, Bill (Barbara) Bodner, Daniel (Robin Haueter) Bodner and Jon (Lisa) Bodner.

Born in Milwaukee on Feb. 21, 1937, Ben was a Shorewood High School graduate, class of 1955, and a Yale University alumna, class of 1959. He was an entrepreneur and real estate developer in New York City. “For God, for Country, and for Yale” was his guiding principle. He was a great lover of the arts with a keen eye for American impressionist painting and drawing, which he collected over his lifetime. He supported the New York City Ballet, New York Philharmonic of Lincoln Center and also Carnegie Hall.

An avid sports fan, Ben adored the Green Bay Packers, the New York Yankees, New York Knicks and the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.

Graveside service was held on Aug. 14 at Second Home Cemetery, 3705 S. 43rd St., Milwaukee. Rabbi Noah Chertkoff and Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home assisted the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Benjamin Charles Zitron’s name may be made to Lincoln Center Education (LincolnCenterEducation.org).
