Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association has loaned $1 million

The Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association has passed the $1 million mark, having loaned that much to local people since it was founded 10 years ago.

The nonprofit serves people both within and outside the Jewish community, with student loans or other kinds of loans to assist with self-sufficiency or getting through a tough time.

The Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association is planning a private, preview screening of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” starring Tom Hanks.

“It changes people’s lives in such a profound way,” said Felicia Miller, development director for the nonprofit. “If you have $500 to fix your car, the rest of your life can stay on track.”

The Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association’s tagline is that it offers “a handup, not a handout.”

Loans are offered at 0% interest, with repayment plans established on an individual basis.

The organization is celebrating its 10th anniversary, with a movie night honoring the founders on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019. The evening, at Marcus North Shore Cinema, is a private, preview screening of “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” starring Tom Hanks.
