Marvin Arbiture

Marvin Arbiture died on Jan. 12, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born on Oct. 21, 1934 to the late Abraham and the late Shirley Arbiture (nee Goldberg). Beloved brother of the late Gerald (the late Edith) Arbiture; uncle of William (Cynthia) Arbiture, Howard Arbiture and the late Diane (Dean) Slater; great-uncle of Aaron (Hagit Aslack), Daniel (Ainsley), Elon and Chloe (Jon Bell) Arbiture; great-great-uncle of Eytan, Maya, Evy and Willa Arbiture. Further survived by his cherished partner of many years, Brenda Safer.

Marvin was a U.S. Army veteran and a long time employee of Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee. He always put his family first, especially his parents, and will be deeply missed by his remaining family and friends.

A graveside service was held on January 16, at 11 a.m. at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery, 134 S. Dana Ct., Milwaukee.  Rabbi Steve Adams officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Temple Menorah or Congregation Emanu-El Food Bank appreciated.

Donna J. Bachman

Donna J. Bachman died March 7, 2019. She was 85.

Donna was born in 1933 to William and Francis Schumm in Wauwatosa. She attended Wauwatosa High School and graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Donna met the love of her life, William Bachman. Bill and Donna’s passion was Arabian horses. They bred, raced and showed world-class Arabian horses internationally. Bill and Donna were married for 61 years.

Donna was a loving mother to Michael Bachman (Barbara), Pamela Bachman-Reynaud, and Jodi Weigelt (John). Donna adored her grandchildren Emily Ebben (Joseph), Jacob Bachman (Stephanie), Benjamin Bachman (Kaitlynn), Braydon Miller, Dylan Miller, Scarlett Reynaud, Raphael Reynaud, Sarah Weigelt (David Pettiti), Joshua Weigelt, Jacquelyn Junek (Paul), and great-grandchildren, Ozzy Ebben, Poppy Ebben, Lucy Pettiti, Lily Pettiti, and Madilyn Junek.

Memorial services were at Congregation Shalom on March 13. Rabbi Noah Chertkoff and Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted.

Harriet Bern

Harriet (Nee Kramer) Bern died March 3, 2019 at the age of 90.

Beloved wife of the late James Bern. Cherished mother of Marc (Cathy) Bern, Mindy (Alan) Hecht, Randy Bern, and Tami (Michael) Schultz. Dear sister of Beverly (the late Larry) Berg, Marlene (Ken) Plavnick, and Robert (Sandi) Kramer. Further survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other dear relatives, and many fond friends. Funeral services were March 5 at Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home. Burial was at Second Home Cemetery.  Memorial contributions made to Friendship Circle of Wisconsin appreciated.

Wendy Englander

Wendy Englander died March 6, 2019. She was 50.

Wendy, of Milwaukee, died peacefully surrounded by her sisters. Preceded in death by her mother Ann Englander Berkman. Treasured daughter of Dr. James (Carole) Englander. Beloved sister of Caryn Englander (Richard Bollow), Janice Englander Katz (Jeffrey Katz), Linda Englander Mills (Clive Mills). Dear niece of Shelby Lozoff (Joan) and Penny Hirsch (Maurice Ehrlich). Cherished aunt of Michael Bollow (Jillian), Brian Bollow (Lisa), Jessica Bollow and Stephanie Bollow; Joshua Katz and Justin Katz; Evan Mills (Jessica), Adam Mills and Ryan Mills; and great-aunt of Allison, William and Brandon Bollow; Ethan and Delaney Mills.

Wendy was a sparkling ray of sunshine in a world full of rainbows who brought joy and humor to all whose lives she touched. Full of warmth and compassion, she raised the spirits of everyone who crossed her path. Her beautiful soul will be missed each and every day.

Funeral services were March 10 in Shorewood, with interment at Mound Zion Cemetery. Memorials to St. Coletta of Wisconsin, N4637 County Road Y, Jefferson, WI 53549.

Jerry Feldman

Jerry Feldman of Pittsboro, North Carolina died Feb. 12, 2019. He was 79.

Jerry was born Jan. 3, 1940 in Sheboygan.

He graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1964 and worked as a dentist. He founded Mayfair Dental Group, where he worked until his retirement. He proudly served as a captain in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by wife Dr. Elizabeth Cuneo and children Andrew, Dr. Bettina Cuneo, Pia Cuneo (Peter Foley deceased); sister Judy (Chuck) Holzman; among others.

Jerry was a clinical instructor at Marquette University Dental School and served as an instructor in the School of Dental Hygiene at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Memorial donations may be sent to the Kidney Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Dr. Robert R. Jacobs

Dr. Robert R. Jacobs of Mequon died Feb. 15, 2019. He was 88.

He was born Oct. 30, 1930 in Milwaukee. He graduated from North Division High School in 1948 and from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1953.

A member of Shir Hadash, he was also part of the Thiensville-Mequon Rotary, the Boy Scouts, the Milwaukee Ski Club and the Ozaukee County Historical Society.

He served as a podiatrist with the Village Foot Clinic-Thiensville. He was president of American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management and of the American College of Foot Orthopedists. He enjoyed model airplanes, biking and skiing.

Survivors include wife Marilyn, plus sons Gary (Ann) Jacobs, Jonathan (Ann) Jacobs, daughters-Judy (Mark) Paschen, Melody (Nadav) Cassuto, among others.

Robert donated podiatry skills to medical missions in Guatemala, and Repairers of the Breach in Milwaukee, and the Walk for Israel. He volunteered at the Jewish Food Pantry and Ozaukee Historical Society. Robert had perfect Rotary attendance for 59 years.

Burial was at Mound Zion Cemetery Feb. 18, with rabbis Michal Woll and David Brusin, with assistance from Goodman-Bensman, Whitefish Bay Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Congregation Shir Hadash, P.O. Box 170632, Milwaukee, WI 53217.

Roger Yale Pokrass

Roger Yale Pokrass of Mequon died March 19, 2019. He was 89.

Roger was born July 24, 1929 in Milwaukee and he was a real estate investor.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosemary “Roey” Pokrass. Cherished father of Ellen M. Wagner and Andrew S. Pokrass (Sharon Madnek). Loving grandfather of Robert and William McCarty; Mollie, Sydney and Sam Pokrass. Roger was modest, devoted to family and friends, always active and constantly learning.

A graveside burial service on March 24 was at Spring Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center for the benefit of the Roger and Rosemary Pokrass “Get Fit” Fund. Rabbi David Cohen and Blane Goodman Funeral Service assisted.

Milton M. Schwartz

Originally from Manitowoc, Milton M. Schwartz died on Jan. 23, 2019 in Milwaukee at the age of 95. For the past several years, he resided at Ovation Chai Point with his wife, Bess (nee Luffman).

He was born Nov. 22, 1923, the son of Abraham and Martha Schwartz and the youngest of eight children, who all preceded him in death. He spent his career at Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry, a business begun by his father in 1909 and continued by several brothers, nephews and great-nephews in addition to himself. He enjoyed a lengthy work span of 69 years, until his retirement as Chairman of the Board and moved to Milwaukee in 2016.

He served the Jewish community in Manitowoc holding offices in his synagogue, Anshe Poale Zedek, in B’nai B’rith where he was a 50-year member, and in the Jewish Federation of Manitowoc.

Aside from his wife, Bess, whom he married in 1947, he is survived by four daughters, Sandra (David) Abraham, Barbara (Berel) Lutsky, Deborah Praeger, and Cynthia (Edward) Malkin; and son, David (Cheryl); as well as five grandchildren, Marta, Karen, Abigail, Nathan and Zachary, and one great-grandson, Ezra. Further survived by his brother-in-law, Sam (the late Claire) Luffman.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home, 4750 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Whitefish Bay. Interment was at Second Home Cemetery, 3705 S. 43rd St., Milwaukee. Rabbi Levi Emmer officiated.  Memorials to Anshe Poale Zedek Synagogue, P.O. Box 2291, Manitowoc, WI 54421-2291; the Milwaukee Jewish Federation or the charity of your choice appreciated.

Kenneth Shechtman

Kenneth Shechtman of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Milwaukee, died Feb. 7, 2019 at the age of 74. Preceded in death by his brother, Jerry. Survived by his wife, Janice; sons, Dean (Michelle) and Brad Shechtman; grandchildren, Linzi, Amanda and Dylan Shechtman; and brother, Morris (Gertrude) Shechtman. Private services were held in Florida. Assistance from Goodman-Bensman and Whitefish Bay Funeral Home.
