Mr. Rogers remembered

Hedda Sharapan, longtime producer of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and dear friend of Fred Rogers, will share her experiences from more than 52 years with Fred Rogers and his company at “Behind the Scenes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” on Feb. 6 at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Learn to play catchball, the fastest growing sport for women in Israel. No cost and no athletic requirements, just a willingness to learn and have fun! Film: The Last Mentsch

Blacklist and Golden Age

“The Blacklist: A Tarnish on Hollywood’s Golden Age.” Feb. 10, 2-3:30 p.m. at Jewish Museum Milwaukee. Professor on film and Judaism

Rachel Baum, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will speak in Waukesha on Feb. 21 about Jewish American films and television. Baum’s program will be held at Congregation Emanu-El of Waukesha, beginning at 7 p.m. Baum will show clips from current movies and television shows, and analyze what they say about Jewish identity now and in the future.

Black, Jewish and Red

Conversation starter: Black, Jewish and Red. In this presentation, Elliot Ratzman, fellow in Jewish studies at Lawrence University, examines how Jews and blacks on the left helped create the culture and politics of the twentieth century. “Fostering Grit in Our Upper School Students: Why It’s Oh, So Important,” is the topic for a Milwaukee Jewish Day School Ed Talk. Feb. 26, 6:30-8 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents and educators from throughout the metro Milwaukee area to come together for an evening of dialogue focused on the importance of building perseverance in middle school-aged children. This discussion will be led by Dr. Michael A. Mazius, Ph.D. MJDS ED Talks began in 2015 and follow the format of the famous TED Talk, featuring engaging speakers on the forefront of education and parenting. Dr. Mazius will deliver thoughtful and inspiring insight based on his research in neuroscience, academic underachievement, social skills and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
