The federal government remains shut down as President Donald Trump holds out for a $5 billion wall between the United States and Mexico.
Democrats say they are happy to support good border security, but not the construction project that the president is seeking. The president, on the other hand, has been consistent in his desire for a wall between the United States and Mexico, as the best way to curb illegal immigration and to satisfy his voter base. Meanwhile, some Democrats are so disenchanted with the president that don’t want to see their representatives compromise on the wall at all.
