Annual Campaign: Meet Cheryl Moser

Cheryl Moser is the current Women’s Campaign Chair for the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign. She spoke recently with The Chronicle. Excerpts of that conversation follow.

Tell us about your background.

I grew up in Toledo and went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science. I moved to Milwaukee and earned a master’s in education from Cardinal Stritch University. Now I work as a birth-to-three teacher at St. Francis Children’s Center and as a part-time instructor in early childhood education at the Milwaukee Area Technical College.

And what about your family?

I’m married to Mitch who is an attorney. We have three boys. Sam, 22, graduated from UW-Madison and is working at Epic Systems. Jeremy, 21, is a junior at the University of Minnesota. Our youngest is Daniel, 16. He’s a junior at Nicolet High School.

How did you become involved with the Federation?

Both Mitch and I come from Federation families. It’s just part of who we are. When I moved to Milwaukee, it was very easy to get involved and learn about Jewish life here. Then when we had children, they started using Federation-supported services like the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. And when they got older, they became involved in the Steve & Shari Sadek Family Camp Interlaken JCC and BBYO-Wisconsin Region. Our children know what Federation is because it’s part of our lives.

Why do you give to the Federation’s Annual Campaign?

I give because I want to be a role model for my children and because I want to support our community. I know that my dollar has more value when I give it to the Federation. Like most families, our ability to give is limited, so when our gift is combined with gifts of others, we can have a much bigger impact than we can have on our own. And I still give additional dollars to those agencies that I love the most.

Why did you choose to become Women’s Campaign Chair?

It’s not something I really thought about until I was asked. I believe in our Federation, what it does, who it supports, and how it makes our community great. To do it right, I need to dedicate a lot of time to this role, so I wanted to get the support of my family. Once I had that, it was easy to say yes.
