Ananda Deacon and Jacob Newman, of the Nicolet High School class of 2017, have been granted the American Civil Liberties Union 2016 Youth Civil Libertarians of the Year award.
“As leaders of Nicolet’s Multicultural Club they have worked tirelessly to promote inclusiveness, justice, understanding and civil rights in conversations at school and in the broader community,” said Emilio De Torre, director of Youth and Programs for the ACLU, in a released statement.
The award is for their work as student activists and change agents in their school.
The pair will be honored at the 2016 Bill of Rights Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Italian Conference Center in Milwaukee. Their award is sponsored by Jack and Lucy Rosenberg.
