MILWAUKEE – Sanford Jay Mitz, a former president of Milwaukee Jewish Day School with a passion for go-kart racing, died May 27, 2016. He was 66.
Mitz was a parent to three MJDS graduates and a longtime member of the school’s finance committee. He was behind the creation of the school’s first computer lab, said school spokeswoman Cristy Milrud.
He served as treasurer of Congregation Shir Hadash and was a founding member.
A graduate of Nicolet High School and University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, his profession was accounting. He had a 27-year partnership with Steve Rosanksy, and he loved his work, but his interests went behind that. He had a passion for go-kart racing and race cars in general. In recent years he enjoyed living in downtown Milwaukee, walking, biking and trying new restaurants.
The burial May 29, 2016 was at Second Home Cemetery with Rabbi Tiferet Berenbaum. The funeral home was Goodman-Bensman.
Mitz is survived by wife Lynda (Babrove) Mitz. Survivors also include Adam, Evan and Noah Mitz, three sons who live in St. Louis, Atlanta and Los Angeles, respectively. He is also survived by brother Howard B. Mitz.
