Summerfest Jewish Rock
The Moshe Skier Band is playing Jewish rock and blues at Summerfest. The Moshe Skier Band is a Milwaukee-based Jewish rock band specializing in original and classic Jewish music, played in a hard-hitting classic rock and blues style. MSO’s Dinur at Shalom
Congregation Shalom hosts this year’s annual Milwaukee Symphony concert in memory of Rubin Sharpe. This special presentation will feature Israeli musician Yaniv Dinur, the new MSO Assistant Conductor, on piano, and the MSO’s associate concertmaster, Ilana Setapen, on violin. Free and open to the public. No ticket necessary, but seating is limited. Box dinners are offered at $10 each for dining at 7:15 p.m. prior to the concert, or feel free to bring your own. Artist Elisha Ben Yitzhak
World-renowned Milwaukee artist Elisha Ben Yitzhak is hosting a solo art show at the Frank L. Weyenberg Library in Mequon/Thiensville. Elisha Ben Yitzhak was born in Israel in 1943. He studied art at the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem and the Avni Art Institute in Tel Aviv under the guidance of master artists. He has lived in Milwaukee since 1985. His paintings have been exhibited in museums, galleries, art festivals, plus private art exhibits in numerous countries around the world including a group exhibit at the famed Tate Gallery in London. His paintings have appeared in countless publications and electronic displays. This is the first major art show in the Milwaukee area by Ben Yitzhak. Held at the Frank L. Weyenberg Library, 11345 N. Cedarburg Road, Mequon. A meet-the-artist event at the library on July 9 from 4-5 p.m. is part of a free gala reception from 3-6 p.m. Show is also on display July 1 through Aug. 31 at the library. Regular library hours are Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and closed Sundays.

Madison speaker on Chicago renewal
“Prayer as Revolution: Reclaiming, Repurposing, Restoring Religion for the Next Generation.” When Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann explored the possibility of creating a spiritual community as a way of connecting with Jewish young adults in Chicago, some thought her misguided. Four years later, Mishkan Chicago connects over 2,000 people every year through music, prayer, learning, social activism and one-on-one relationship building among unengaged Jews in Chicago, its signature event being Friday night Shabbat services. MEQUON – From a “Safari” to summer music, Sarah Chudnow Community offers programs to beat the summer heat.
On Monday, July 11, at 11:30 a.m., the young men and women of the Tzofim Friendship Caravan will perform and talk about Israeli history and life. Formed in 1995, the Friends of Israel Scouts, Inc. – Tzofim (FOIS) encompasses programs which develop and maintain a connection between the Tzofim (Israel Scouts) movement in Israel and North American Jewry.
The next presentation in SCC’s Senior Living seminar series, “It’s a Jungle Out There; a Safari Through Elder Care Services,” is Michelle Putz, RN, NHA, on Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m. Putz, who is also COO at Jewish Home and Care Center, will discuss the different Medicare plans and how to make the right choices.
The annual Summer Concert Series continues on Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m., with a performance from Jazz Prime. Playing classic swing and bossa nova standards, this foursome specializes in your favorites from the great American songbook. This piano, bass, drums group is topped off with the wonderful vocals of Darele Bisquerra. On Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m., enjoy the sounds of Mr. Lucky Syndicate. Powered with class, Mr. Lucky influences ranges from the campy TV show “Get Smart” to marching bands mixed with hearty portions of Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder.
