Rabbi Rachel Kaplan Marks, assistant rabbi at Congregation Shalom, will be a delegate to the 37th World Zionist Congress that will open Oct. 20 in Jerusalem. As she wrote in the synagogue’s September bulletin, she is one of the 145 U.S. delegates elected this past spring, and one of the 56 of
them that will represent the Association of Reform Zionists of America, the U.S. group that won the largest number of delegates. In part of her preparation for this, Marks in August attended a two-day meeting convened by the American Zionist Movement, the umbrella organization for all U.S. Zionist parties. According to the American Zionist Movement website, the U.S. WZC elections were held January through April and almost 57,000 votes were cast.
