Congregation Sinai in Milwaukee is one of eight winners from across North America of the 2015 Union for Reform Judaism’s Belin Outreach and Membership Awards, according to an email sent to The Chronicle Aug. 7.
The awards are presented to congregations that have developed programs to welcome and integrate those new to Judaism, created relationship-based membership engagement models or developed new, innovative ways to engage and retain members.
Eight winners were awarded $1,000, funded by David Belin, the first chair of the URJ-CCAR Joint Commission on Outreach and Membership. Six other congregations received honorable mention.
All will be honored at the Union for Reform Judaism Biennial in Orlando, Fla., in November.
The Milwaukee synagogue is being honored for its “Sinai in the City” program established in 2014. For more information, visit URJ.org or CongregationSinai.org.
