‘Kinneret People’ photo exhibit comes to Milwaukee

   An exhibit of 75 photographs from the Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, that focuses on the early, everyday life in Kibbutz Ein Gev and surroundings will be on display June 28-July 31 at three connected locations on the East Side of Milwaukee.

   “Kinneret People” by Naftali Oppenheim (1912-1953) will start at the Sally and Phillip Askotzky Art Gallery in the Jewish Home and Care Center’s Peck Hall, 1414 N. Prospect Ave., then along the walls of the Nita L. Corré Dor L’ Dor Corridor, as well as in the Chai Point Senior Living Art Gallery. The exhibit will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday through Friday.

   An opening event will take place 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 28. During the opening, the Jewish Museum Milwaukee’s curator, Molly Dubin, and educator, Ellie Gettinger, will provide guests with an introduction to photography in Israel. Docent tours will be available. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

   Oppenheim’s photos document the Jewish settlement in the Jordan Valley during the British Mandate, focusing particularly on everyday life in Kibbutz Ein Gev, located on the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel, which is within the Milwaukee Jewish community’s Partnership2Gether region.

   The exhibit is presented by Partnership2Gether, a program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the Jewish Agency for Israel, in collaboration with the Jewish Home and Care Center, Chai Point Senior Living and Jewish Museum Milwaukee. Guy Raz, renowned Israeli photographer, researcher and historian, curated the original exhibit.
