Student from Milwaukee reports anti-Semitic incident

Milwaukeean Molly Horwitz is a junior at Stanford University who is seeking to run for the student senate. On March 13, she was interviewed by the Students of Color Coalition for an endorsement.

She reported in an April 13 opinion article for the Stanford Daily that she was asked about her Jewish identity and how she felt about divestment from Israel, a resolution supporting which had passed the student senate in February.

An April 12 article in The Stanford Review by editor-in-chief Brandon Camhi pointed out that this incident seems to resemble a recent event at the University of California Los Angeles that has been “widely criticized as an example of burgeoning anti-Semitism and religious discrimination on college campuses.”

In her article, Horwitz wrote, “I hope SOCC can recognize that what they asked me was wrong. I hope SOCC will apologize and work to address the needs of Jewish students, as well as other minority students.”

Horwitz is a graduate of the Milwaukee Jewish Day School and celebrated her bat mitzvah at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid.
