Shalom hires assistant rabbi

Congregation Shalom has announced that it has hired Rachel Kaplan Marks as its next assistant rabbi.

She is currently a fifth year student at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Los Angeles campus and will be ordained as a rabbi in the later spring.

She holds master’s degrees in Jewish education and Hebrew letters from HUC-JIR and earned her bachelor’s degree at Indiana University.

She grew up in suburban Chicago, and her Reform movement activities have included attending Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute in Oconomowoc.

Watch for a future Chronicle feature when she officially joins the synagogue.
