Les Yeux Noirs will perform a mix of gyspy, jazz and klezmer music at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan on Tuesday, March 17, and Thursday, March 19.
The French band (whose name translates to “The Black Eyes”) has been spreading its own brand of eastern European music around the world for more than 20 years.
At the core of the ensemble are brothers Eric and Olivier Slabiak, who are violinists and singers. The band blends traditional rhythms of Jewish folk music with Romanian and Middle Eastern gypsy stylings and a jazzy, rock-and-roll attitude.
The Tuesday show is part of the Footlights Family Series, which offers shorter programs that include opportunities to interact with the artists. The Thursday evening performance presents an evening-length concert.
The ARTcafe in the Arts Center complements the Thursday performance with an eastern European dinner menu. Reservations are recommended.
For more information and tickets, call 920-458-6144 or visit jmkac.org. Tickets start at $12 for Arts Center members, $16 for nonmembers for the Family Series show.
The Arts Center is located at 608 New York Ave. in downtown Sheboygan. Free parking is available in the Arts Center lot on New York Avenue.
