Chronicling History

Getting out the vote — During this election season, we remember Samuel M. Soref (1900-1990), who represented Milwaukee’s Sixth Ward on the City Council from 1928-1940. He was also an attorney and chair of the Master Lock Co. The obituary for him in The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle of May 25, 1990, noted that his achievements as alderman included sponsoring a council resolution denying municipal licenses to taverns that allowed meetings of Nazi organizations on their premises. This poster comes from the Jewish Museum Milwaukee archives.
