Helen Kaplan
Helen Kaplan, nee Mislove, of Cedarburg died May 13 of a combination of dementia and Parkinson’s disease. She was 85.
She was born in Wausau and graduated from Milwaukee’s Riverside High School in 1946. She worked as a sales representative for Kearns Carpet, where she was recognized as a top saleswoman.
She was a member of Congregation Shalom, Hadassah, Women’s American ORT and the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale. She enjoyed knitting, singing, bridge and tennis.
She was predeceased by her son Eric Kaplan. She is survived by husband Earl Kaplan, daughter Jo Ellen (Randy) Loewenthal; sister Harriet (James) Schutkin; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the graveside service in Second Home Cemetery on May 15.

Milwaukee native David Montag of Encinitas, Calif., died of heart failure on June 3. He was 93.
He graduated from West Division High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served as a hospitalcorpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and participated in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns.
He owned Montag Pharmacal Company in Milwaukee. He retired in 1977 and moved with his wife Thelma (nee Wagner) to Encinitas. They were active volunteers, especially for the San Diego Botanic Gardens and the Flower Fields.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by daughters Terri (John) Rice of Wilmette, Ill., and Heidi (Jim) Welsh of San Elijo Hills, Calif.; son Jeff (Helen) Montag of Carlsbad, Calif.; brother Robert Montag and sister Ruth Montag Berman, both of Milwaukee; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service took place June 18 at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.

Native Milwaukeean Daniel Adam Plotkin of Pompano, Fla., died May 6. He was 32.
He graduated from Nicolet High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He worked as lead case manager for The Recovery Place in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
According to an article about him published on the website of Elements Behavioral Health, Plotkin’s own struggle with addiction led him to his job.
“Daniel came to Florida after a family intervention propelled him into treatment,” the article states. “After getting sober in treatment and spending nine months in a halfway house, Daniel knew he wanted to work in the field so he could help people in the same position he was in.”
The article stated that Plotkin was pursuing an addictions counselor certification and hoped to earn a master’s degree and become a therapist.
He is survived by his mother Linda Schlesinger (Mel) Cohen, sister Cari (Brian) Mattick, grandfather Mel (Iris) Schlesinger and fiancée Jenny Carney.
Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on May 13. Burial was in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery.
