Eliot Markman of Whitefish Bay was one of 150 supporters of the American Jewish World Service who went to Washington, D.C., May 11-13 for the organization’s annual policy summit and lobby day.
According to an AJWS news release, Markman met with staff members from the offices of Senators Tammy Baldwin (D) and Ron Johnson (R) and Rep. Gwen Moore (D) to discuss the International Violence Against Women Act.
According to the release, the lobby day marked the culmination of the policy summit, which is a part of “We Believe,” AJWS’s national advocacy campaign to help end violence against women and girls, stop hate crimes against LGBT people and empower girls to end child marriage. The first initiative of the project is to advocate for the passage of IVAWA.
