Fusions to perform in Madison, Milwaukee

          Fusions is a musical project of oud artist Taiseer Elias, composer/pianist Menachem Wiesenberg and Uri Vardi, professor of cello and Jewish studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It aims to highlight the connections between Arabic and Jewish art music.

          At the beginning of a planned national tour, the group will be performing in Madison and Milwaukee.

          A concert on Saturday, April 5, 8 p.m., is planned for the Mills Recital Hall, 455 N. Park St., Madison. A second Madison performance will take place on Sunday, April 6, 12:30 p.m., at the Chazen Museum of Art, 750 University Ave.

          The Milwaukee performance is slated for Sunday, April 6, 7 p.m., at the Jewish Home and Care Center’s Rubenstein Pavilion, 1400 N. Prospect Ave.

          The program will include traditional solo music for oud, duo arrangements of Jewish and Arabic music, and two contemporary works. Admission is free.

          The concerts are presented by the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies and the Jewish Federation of Madison.
