March programs at Chai Point include performing arts, visual arts, fashion and Jewish history.
The first of three workshops from The Creative Trust Milwaukee entitled “How to Stop Traffic!” will take place Monday, March 3, 2:30 p.m. “Traffic” examines how we can use humor to make streets safer for our elders to cross.
The remaining two workshops are a part of the Cinderella show running April 25-May 4.
On Thursday, March 6, 2:30 p.m., “How to be a Fairy Godmother” answers the question, “Just what is a fairy godmother?”
“The Dance of Housework Across the Ages” on Thursday, March 13, 2:30 p.m. aims to teach the younger generation what “housework” meant in days past.
The Creative Trust is an alliance of long-term care communities in the Milwaukee area; faculty, students and staff at UWM’s Peck School of the Arts; and educational staff of area arts/culture institutions with the shared goal of fostering life-long learning through the arts.
John Gurda offers “Reflections on Milwaukee’s Jewish History” on Sunday, March 9, 2 p.m., in the Rubenstein Pavilion. Gurda is the author of “One People, Many Paths: A History of Jewish Milwaukee” and of “The Making of Milwaukee.” A reception will follow at 3 p.m.
Rabbi Steve Adams of Congregation Emanu-El of Waukesha continues his lecture series “Jews of Other Countries” on Monday, March 10, and Monday, March 24, both 2:45 p.m. These two installments will explore the Jews of Asia.
On Wednesday, March 12, 3 p.m., Chai Point hosts a “Dog Day Afternoon” featuring “Best in Show-Offs” starring dogs of staff members. Residents will be treated to a dog show complete with a parade of dogs and judging on various attributes.
On Sunday, March 16, 3:30 p.m., Milwaukee silversmith Annette Hirsh exhibits a selection of Judaica, jewelry, sculpture and watercolors in the Chai Point Art Gallery. A talkback with Hirsh and reception will accompany the exhibit.
“Spring Chai into Fashion” will take place during the week of March 17-21. Highlights include a fashion show hosted by AccessibleWear.com on Tuesday, March 18, 1:30-3 p.m. Residents of Chai Point will serve as models.
Fashion and history merge on Friday, March 20, 3 p.m. with the Goodwill Fashion Show spotlighting “Bridal Fashions of Yesteryear.”
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design visits Chai Point the week of March 24. On Tuesday, March 25, 1:30 p.m., Judith Harway, associate professor, will talk about MIAD’s Brooks Stevens Gallery of Industrial Design.
James Slauson, professor of art history and humanities, presents a lecture on prehistoric art and architecture on Thursday, March 27, 3 p.m.
