A group of anti-Israel protestors briefly interrupted Israeli author and television executive Ron Leshem during his presentation at the Golda Meir Library at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Jan. 30.
Elana Kahn-Oren, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, was present. She said that she recognized some of the protestors as members of the Milwaukee Palestine Solidarity Coalition, and that others appeared to be college students.
The group of about 25 to 30 — in a total audience of about 100 — arrived early and positioned themselves in the front two rows of chairs in the meeting room. They sat silently and did text messaging as Leshem began his presentation about his career.
About 15 minutes into Leshem’s talk, one of the protestors, a young man, stood up and began haranguing the audience, yelling “Stop advocating for Israel” and other things. Other members of the audience yelled back.
Then the group stood and walked out. They had taped onto themselves signs saying “Boycott Israel Free Palestine” and “Occupation is not entertainment.”
After the group left, the presentation continued and concluded peacefully.
A longer article about what Leshem said is planned for the March Chronicle.
