Rabbi Jacob Herber, spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid, was one of three people honored by Masorti Olami at the North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park, Ill., on Dec. 8.
He received the organization’s Rabbi Mordecai Waxman Memorial Rabbinic and Community Leadership Award.
Masorti Olami-The World Council of Conservative Synagogues was founded in 1957. According to its website, it “builds, renews and strengthens Jewish life throughout the world,” and serves more than 130 congregations.
Herber is a member of the organization’s board of directors. In describing him, the Masorti Olami website noted particularly his 2008 trip to Uganda to help with the conversion of more than 200 members of the Abayudaya community and his international “work in promoting interfaith dialogue.”
