German American bund is topic at Boswell Books

Before the U.S. entered World War II, the German-American Bund movement tried to mobilize sympathy for Nazi Germany. It was active in many places with German immigrant populations, including Milwaukee.

Chicago author Arnie Bernstein recently published a book about this little remembered phenomenon, “Swastika Nation: Fritz Kuhn and the Rise and Fall of the German-American Bund” (St. Martin’s Press.)

He will come to Milwaukee to speak about the book on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m., at the Boswell Book Company, 2559 N. Downer Ave., Milwaukee. Admission is free.

This event is co-sponsored by the Sam and Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center of the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
