The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center will be offering free film classes in December.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m., the “Cutting Edge Israel” series will present “Follow Me: The Yoni Netanyahu Story” (2012). The series is co-sponsored by the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

This documentary celebrates Yonaton Netanyahu, commander of the 1976 Entebbe rescue. The film is based on Yoni’s own words and letters, and includes home movie scenes with his brother, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Discussion will be led by Israel emissaries to Milwaukee Ro’ee and Michal Peled.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, 4 p.m., the “Jews Around the World” free film classes will show the Israeli film “Restoration” (2011). Winner of six Israeli film awards, this drama stars Sasson Gabai as a furniture restorer who struggles to keep his business alive while facing challenges as the father of a grown son.

The film is in Hebrew with subtitles, and is co-sponsored by the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. JCC Judaic educator Jody Hirsh will be the instructor.

The “Exploring Jewish Genius” series will continue on Sunday, Dec 15, 4 p.m., with a free program about photographer Annie Leibovitz. Leibovitz is best known for her portraits for Rolling Stone Magazine, as well as photographs from across the globe.

The program includes the partial viewing of the film “Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens.” Milwaukee photographer Marc Tasman, a senior lecturer in the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Media Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will discuss Leibovitz’s career, the effect of her Jewish background on her work and the relationship between Jews and photography.
