Kristallnacht Commemoration

About 475 people attended the event commemorating the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht (the German Nazi national pogrom, Nov. 9-10, 1938), held on Nov. 20 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and sponsored by the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center.

Highlights included: The Milwaukee premier of Robert Krakow’s play “The Trial of FDR,” whose cast included Mark Lien (in wheelchair) as President Franklin Roosevelt and Franklyn Gimbel as prosecutor Oliver Wendell Holmes; recognition of event co-chairs (from left) Bev Greenberg, Jodi Habush Sinykin and (at right) Nancy K. Barnett by HERC executive committee chair Betty Chrustowski (second from right); and a post-play talkback with Krakow (second from left) and four surviving Jewish refugees from Germany who had traveled on the MS St. Louis, (from left) Phillip Freund of Milwaukee, Dr. Rudolf Jacobson of Denver, Eva Wiener of Neptune, N.J., and Dr. Sol Messinger of Buffalo, N.Y.
