JCC offers film classes in November

   The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center will be offering free film classes throughout November.

   On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m., the “Jews Around the World” series will be showing “The Other Son” (“Le fils de L’autre”) (2012). It tells how two young men — one Israeli and one Palestinian — discover that they were accidentally switched at birth, The film is in Hebrew, Arabic and French with subtitles.

   The instructor is Elana Kahn-Oren, director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. This film is co-sponsored by the Israel Center of the MJF.

   Also co-sponsored by the JCC and the Israel Center is the “Cutting Edge Israel” series that presents short Israeli films, in Hebrew with subtitles, on select Thursday nights from 7:30-9 p.m.

   The series will present “I Had a Dream” (2006) on Thursday, Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m., with discussion led by Ro’ee and Michal Peled, emissaries from Israel to Milwaukee.

   The film focuses on Ethiopian Yona Bugale, who was brought to Europe as a young boy, where he learned about his Jewish heritage and became a leader who helped to prevent the destruction of Ethiopian Jewry.

   Also continuing on Nov. 7, 12 and 19 at 7 p.m. is the viewing and discussion of Season 2 of “Hatufim” (“Prisoners of War”), the hit Israeli TV series on which Showtime’s “Homeland”was based. Ro’ee and Michal Peled will lead the concluding discussion on Nov. 19.
