Stein launches films on Kindertransport

Milwaukeean Sam Stein has begun working on a documentary film series that tells the stories of children who were sent from their homes during World War II to escape Nazi Germany.

Stein has begun interviewing survivors who were among the 10,000 children who were rescued between 1938 and 1940 by a project known today as Kindertransport (children transport). The children were taken to London where they were placed in foster homes or hostels with other orphaned youth.

The first episode is in production and tells the stories of three survivors of the Kindertransport and two relatives of Kindertransport survivors from Wisconsin. Subsequent episodes will focus on survivors in Illinois and Michigan.

More information on The Kindertransport Project: Our Children’s Future can be found at www.thekindertransportproject.com. Survivors of Kindertransports and their families are encouraged to contact Stein through the website.
