The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC will be offering free film classes in October.
On Sunday, Oct. 6, “Orchestra of Exiles” (2012) will be shown at 4 p.m. This documentary film is about the origins of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and how violinist Bronislaw Huberman rescued musicians from Nazi-occupied Europe to create it.
This program is co-sponsored by the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center and the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Josh Richman will lead the discussion.
On Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m., the “Cutting Edge Israel” series will view “Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference” (2011), with Dr. David Gutterman leading the discussion.
This documentary celebrates Israel’s accomplishments in the 21st century and examines how a small nation, surrounded by enemies, has managed to achieve so much in such a short time.
“The Breakfast Parliament,” shown on Thursday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m., examines the disintegration of kibbutz life in modern times, focusing on Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, with discussion led by co-emissary from Israel Ro’ee Peled.
“Cutting Edge Israel” is co-sponsored by the Israel Center of the MJF.
Also sponsored by both the JCC and the Israel Center is viewing and discussing the second season of the Israeli hit series “Prisoners of War” (“Hatufim”). These free classes will be on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 29 and continuing into November.
