Eshel — a national organization serving the needs of Jewish lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Orthodox Jews — is sponsoring a Midwest retreat Aug. 9-11.
It will take place at the JCC Perlstein Resort and Conference Center in Lake Delton.
The program will feature Dr. Joy Ladin. Ladin returned to Yeshiva University as a woman after receiving tenure as a man which made her the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution.
Her memoir of gender transition, “Through the Door of Life: A Jewish Journey Between Genders,”was a finalist for a 2012 National Jewish Book Award, and winner of a Forward Fives award.
The retreat also will include learning, prayer, kosher food and time for relaxation and summer fun. Participants will receive a $10 day pass to Mt. Olympus Water Park.
