Colton graduates
with high honors

          Gabriel F. Colton of Glendale graduated from Brandeis University summa cum laude this past May with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience.

          He had attended on a four-year full tuition scholarship. He had written a senior honors thesis in computational neuroscience. He also was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and the Psi Chi international honor society in psychology.

          In addition, he was captain of the university’s Ultimate team, which played in Milwaukee last month. (See Chai Lights photograph in the June Chronicle.)

          He is a former Wisconsin region BBYO president. According to an email from his mother, Toby (Mitchell) Colton, he will be pursuing doctoral studies in neuroscience.

 
Milwaukeean to attend
science program in Israel

          Milwaukeean Nancy Gao is one of 19 American students chosen to attend the summer science program at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, according to a news release from the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute.

          She will be participating in the 45th annual Dr. Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute. This four-week program affords students the opportunity to work in small groups with world-renowned scientists and graduate students, conducting research in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer sciences.

          Gao attended Nicolet High School and worked for 18 months in a lab at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in microbiology. She has participated in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair the last two years, receiving a third place award in 2012 from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences and an honorable mention from the American Association of Microbiologists.

 
Physician Weinshel
earns law degree

          Steven S. Weinshel, M.D., earned a law degree from the Marquette University Law School on May 18 and was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar on May 20.

          According to a notice sent to The Chronicle by Leo Weinshel, Steven is a former Milwaukeean who lived in Green Bay for 20 years. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1983.

          He is a neurosurgeon who served in the U.S. Air Force for three years before moving to and practicing in Green Bay.
