Himmelfarb named ‘Senior Volunteer of the Year’

Phil Himmelfarb, chair of Hand in Hand, is this year’s winner of the contest for Senior Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care. He was one of 17 candidates in Wisconsin.

Milwaukee’s Jewish Home and Care Center entered him, and the JHCC was notified on May 17 that he won, according to an email from Marlene Heller, JHCC director of marketing and communications.

His prize is $500 to donate to the nonprofit of his choice. In addition, Home Instead will give him an honoree celebration at the JHCC on Thursday, June 6, 2 p.m., in the Rubenstein Pavilion, to which the community is invited.

After that event, wrote Heller, Himmelfarb will be entered into the national contest, where he will represent Wisconsin senior volunteers and compete for $5,000, also to be donated to the nonprofit of his choice.

Heller wrote that Himmelfarb has spent many years working with Meals on Wheels, the Jewish Home and Care Center and Habitat for Humanity.
