At an event organized in partnership with Jewish National Fund Wisconsin Region, Israeli Joni Liwerant (right) spoke at two pre-Yom HaZikaron events in Milwaukee. The events were hosted at the Peltz Center for Jewish Life in Mequon and Anshe Sfard Kehillat Torah Synagogue in Glendale. Liwerant talked about the Gush Etzion Museum, a memorial to the men and women who died to protect the communities of the Etzion Bloc during Israel’s War of Independence. The museum is undergoing renovation and expansion, with the entrance hall to be dedicated in memory of Liwerant’s son, Uriel, who died while serving in the Israel Defense Force. JNF has launched a special campaign to support this effort. With Liwerant in this photo are (from left) Yonaton and Eden Zion, Israel emissaries to Madison. Photo provided by Sidney Rivkin/JNF.
