The maternal grandmother is Carol Willms of Milwaukee. Karen Butenhoff of Milwaukee is the paternal grandmother.
Joel is a student at Whitman Middle School. According to the CEEBJ March synagogue bulletin, his mitzvah project was to collect money and games for Child’s Play at Children’s Hospital.
Sophie Isabelle Shapiro of Bayside will celebrate becoming a bat mitzvah on April 20 at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid. She is the daughter of Sharon and Mark Shapiro and the sister of Carli, 15.
The maternal grandparents are Bess and the late Sheldon Schneider of Arlington Heights, Ill. Nancy and the late Harold Shapiro of Highland Park, Ill., are the paternal grandparents.
Sophie is a student at Maple Dale School. Her mitzvah project involves raising money for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation and for the music program at the Steve and Shari Sadek Family Camp Interlaken.
