Rabbis David Cohen of Congregation Sinai and Jacob Herber of Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid in February completed their last winter session as participants in the Shalom Hartman Institute’s Religious Leadership Institute fellowship program.
According to Herber’s reflections in CBINT’s March synagogue bulletin, he and Cohen were havruta (study) partners in this project. They were members a group of 26 participating rabbis.
The program involved both distance learning and trips to Israel to study at the Jerusalem-based institute and meet Israeli leaders in many fields, according to Herber.
Cohen and Herber have brought a Hartman Institute program, “Engaging Israel,” to Milwaukee, as reported in the January 2012 Chronicle.
