Madison Hillel holds tenth Israeli film fest

         

          According to t The Hillel Foundation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will hold its tenth annual Israeli Film Festival Feb. 3-7, at the Hillel building, 611 Langdon St. in Madison.he announcement in the January 2013 Madison Jewish News, each evening of the festival will be devoted to a different theme. Topics will include immigration and refugees, Holocaust survivors, Israeli and Arab women, religion, culture, and LGBT subjects.

          Featured films will be:

          “Noodle” (2007), a feature film telling of an Israeli flight attendant’s effort to reunite a Chinese child with his mother. Sunday, Feb. 3, 3:30 p.m.

          “Melting Away” (2012), about the life of a transgender person. Sunday, Feb. 3, 8 p.m.

          “Strangers No More” (2012), a documentary about the Bialek Rogazim school in Tel Aviv. Monday, Feb. 4, 8 p.m.

          “The Flat” (2011), a feature about how a man discovers a shocking story about his grandparents, both immigrants from Nazi Germany. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m.

          “Adam Resurrected” (2008), a feature telling the story of a patient at a mental institution for Holocaust survivors in Israel.

          “Ameer Got His Gun” (2011), a documentary about an Israeli Muslim Arab who enlists in the Israel Defense Force. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 7:30 p.m.

          “The Dreamers” (2008), a documentary about two Israeli haredi Orthodox women trying to express themselves creatively within their religious confines. Thursday, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. In conjunction with this film, Israeli photographer Gil Cohen Magen will display his series of photo-essays on Israeli Hasidic communities.
