Sarah Chudnow presents music, celebrations, more

The Sarah Chudnow Community will host a collection of educational events, Chanukah celebrations, and musical performances this December.

Music performers include the Children’s Choir from Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, Julie Thompson, Jeanette Crosswait, Amy Mueller, Jonathan Brodie, Zoe Biller, and the Sarah Chudnow Glee Club.

On Monday, Dec. 10, starting at 10 a.m., the community will host a 90-minute program to discuss various eye conditions that affect people as they age. The presentation by Jennifer Ottowitz, a certified vision rehabilitation therapist for the Vision Forward Association, will discuss challenges such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other conditions that affect people over the age of 65. Refreshments will be served.

On Sunday, Dec. 9, 11:30 a.m. to noon, the Children’s Choir from Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun will sing Chanukah songs. Also on that date, from 2-3 p.m., vocalist Julie Thompson and her accompanist will perform "High Standards," a collection of popular music spanning several generations.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, 2-3 p.m., vocalist Jeanette Crosswait will provide "Music for the Soul."

On Sunday, Dec. 16, 2-3 p.m., the Sarah Chudnow Glee Club, led by Cantor Jeff Conn and music therapist Zoe Biller will present the Chanukah Cabaret featuring songs of the season.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, 2-3 p.m., the Jonathan Brodie violin and viola concert will entertain the community with traditional and classical selections.

On Sunday, Dec. 30, 2-3 p.m., Biller, who is also a composer and pianist, will perform her original compositions, along with jazz, classical, and Yiddish selections.

On New Year’s Eve at 2 p.m., Amy Mueller will provide piano and accordion music to ring in 2013.
