JCC offers free film classes

The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center will be offering the following free film classes in December.

The “Jews Around the World” class series continues on Sunday, Dec. 2, 4 p.m. with “Footnote.” This Israeli film was nominated for an Academy Award last year. It explores both the world of academic rivalry in Israel as well as a father/son relationship. JCC Judaic educator Jody Hirsh will lead an analysis.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, “Cutting Edge Israel” concludes its fall season with the humorous film “The Beetle.” Join film director Yisai Orian as he drives his old Volkswagen beetle from Israel to Jordan for renovation and tells tales of the car’s previous owners.

The JCC will be offering a free film class in January. On Sunday, Jan. 13, 4-6 p.m., the “Jews Around the World” series continues with the documentary film “The Klezmatics on Holy Ground.”

The film provides a behind-the-scenes look at the popular klezmer band The Klezmatics, following the group for three years across America and through Poland and Hungary. Discussion will be led by Gary Engle.

All free film classes will take place at the Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC in the Community Hall. For further information, contact Laurie Herman lherman@jccmilwaukee.org or 414-964-8212.
