Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee and Dr. Francine Feinberg will be among the honorees at the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee annual luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Italian Conference Center, 631 E. Chicago St.
In addition, the featured speaker at the event will be Richard Cohen, president of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the civil rights advocacy and hate group monitoring organization based in Montgomery, Ala.
The organization will present its Rev. Herbert Huebschmann Urban Ministry Award to Tikkun Ha-Ir (Hebrew for Repair of the City) for that organization’s work in encouraging Milwaukee’s Jewish community “to build a more just Milwaukee through study, action, and civic engagement.”
The organization will be especially celebrated for its Surplus Garden Harvest Project, which donated fresh produce from private gardens, farms and Community Supported Agriculture share boxes to area food banks, pantries, and shelters over the past four years.
Feinberg will receive the conference’s Mark Rohlfing Memorial Award. She retired in August after 28 years as executive director of Meta House, the only program in Wisconsin and the first in the nation to allow women struggling with drug and alcohol addiction to live with their children while rebuilding their lives.
Member judicatories of the Interfaith Conference include the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the Wisconsin Council of Rabbis.
