The second of three Milwaukee Chamber Theatre productions in the 2012-2013 season’s “Exploring Jewish Voices” series will be Donald Margulies’ 1996 play “Collected Stories.”
This production will be staged Nov. 21–Dec. 16 at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway in Milwaukee’s Third Ward.
Moreover, this is a co-production with the Forward Theater Company in Madison. After its Milwaukee run, the production will move to Madison and be performed Jan. 17-Feb. 3 in the Overture Center, 201 State St.
“Collected Stories”tells the tale of a renowned, reclusive short story writer, Ruth Steiner, and her evolving relationship over six years with a young protégée, Lisa Morrison. The play was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1997.
Jewish Community Ticket day for this production will be Thursday, Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m., with the performance followed by a talkback with Jody Hirsh, Judaic educator at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.
A “ViewPoints” lecture on the play will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 6:30 p.m. in the Skylight Bar & Bistro on the second floor of the Broadway Theatre Center, featuring Jewish Museum Milwaukee staff discussing Jewish women and their contrasting generational voices.
“Exploring Jewish Voices” is presented through a partnership of the JCC, Jewish Museum Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. The series features plays by prominent Jewish playwrights, each addressing the season’s overall theme, “Rebels: Pushing Against the Boundaries.”
