The Sam and Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is hosting Palestinian author Samir El-Youssef in a talk on “Writing for Peace” on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. at Boswell Book Company, 2559 N. Downer Ave., Milwaukee.
El-Youssef, who writes about the “politics of peace” in the Middle East, collaborated with Israeli author Etgar Keret in the short story collection “Gaza Blues.” He also has written a novel about an Israeli-Palestinian romance, “A Treaty of Love.”
El-Youssef was born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, and has lived in London since 1990. A contributor to many publications, including The Guardian, the Arabic Al-Hayat, and the Jewish Chronicle in London, he won the 2005 Swedish PEN Tucholsky Award for promoting peace and freedom of speech in the Middle East.
