The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center will be offering free film classes this fall.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m., the “Jews Around the World” series begins with “The Yankles” (2009), a comedy about a yeshiva baseball team determined to compete on a collegiate level. Rabbi Shlomo Levin of Lake Park Synagogue will be the instructor.
“Cutting Edge Israel,” co-sponsored by the JCC and the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, presents short Israeli films, in Hebrew with subtitles, on selected Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
“Nadia’s Friends”(2006), shown Oct. 25, is about two women — a religious Jew and a Muslim — childhood classmates reunited 30 years later. Milwaukee emissaries from Israel Ro’ee and Michal Peled will be the instructors).
On Nov. 8, “My 100 Children” (2003) tells the true story of Lena Kuchler, a Polish Jewish Holocaust survivor who rescued Jewish orphans in post-war Poland, taking them to Palestine. JCC Judaic educator Jody Hirsh and Adina Altshull will be the instructors. “My 100 Children” is co-sponsored by the JCC, the Israel Center, and the Nathan & Esther Pelz Holocaust Resource Center.
In addition, the third season of the Israeli hit TV series “Srugim” (2012)will be viewed on Monday nights 7 to 9 p.m., on Oct. 22 and 29, Nov. 5 and 12, co-sponsored by the JCC and the Israel Center.
All free film classes will be shown at the JCC in the Daniel M. Soref Community Hall. The JCC is located at 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., in Whitefish Bay.
