The Sarah Chudnow Community will host a candidates’ forum on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. Participants will be candidates running for Wisconsin’s 24th Assembly District, which includes all or parts of Brown Deer, Germantown, Glendale, Mequon, and River Hills.
Incumbent Republican candidate Dan Knodl is a Wisconsin native and businessman. He served the community in several local offices before being elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2008. He was reelected and has risen to become the Assistant Majority Leader in the Assembly.
Democratic candidate Shan Haqqi moved to Wisconsin from Texas in 2000. He served as a special assistant to the mayor of Houston. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from Governor’s State University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in human services.
Unlike the old Assembly District 24, the recent redistricting adds areas of Glendale and Brown Deer, which usually vote Democratic, to this traditional Republican district. With control of the Assembly in question, this could become a key race in the state.
