Estelle Lou Bernstein, nee Katz, of Milwaukee died March 17 of natural causes. She was 83.
Born in Milwaukee, she graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.
She was a homemaker who was active in Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, where she served as sisterhood president, and in Women’s American ORT and Hadassah.
She is survived by her husband, Sheldon Bernstein; sons Bradley Bernstein and Richard Bernstein; daughter Jodi Orshan; brother Jeffrey Katz; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Blane Goodman Funeral Services handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on March 20. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the charities of the donor’s choice.
Sam Hornik of Mequon died of complications of Alzheimer’s disease on March 14. He was 82.
He was born in Poland and came to Milwaukee in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, where he won a sharpshooter’s medal and worked in a dental lab in El Paso, Texas.
He worked as a realtor and as a dental technician for Northwest Dental Lab. He was a member of Congregation Shalom. According to his family, he “loved sports,” particularly playing baseball with his sons and watching football.
He is survived by wife Elaine (nee Buchman); sons Al (Terri) Hornik and David (Debra) Hornik of Milwaukee and Jerry (the late Cindi) of Kenosha; brother Seymour (Betty) Hornik of Mequon; and five grandchildren.
Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on March 16. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

Milwaukee native Michael J. Miller of Brown Deer died March 19 from the complications of a long illness. He was 69.
He graduated from Washington High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in sales and was a past member of Congregation Shalom.
He is survived by daughter Dawn (Andrew) Heller; sons Dean, Todd, and Zack Miller; sister Barbara (Richard) Fisher; brother Dennis (Sherry) Miller; and six grandchildren.
Bevsek-Verbick Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on March 29. Burial was in Wisconsin Memorial Park.
