Passover food drive to begin collecting

Non-perishable Passover foods will be collected March 11-28 at a variety of area locations as part of the Milwaukee Jewish community’s annual Passover Food Drive (Maos Chitim). Marked bins will be placed in all of these locations for ease of drop-off.

Drop-off locations include: the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, Hillel Milwaukee, and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, as well as Mequon Jewish Preschool and Gan Ami Jewish Beginnings, at both the Whitefish Bay and Mequon locations.

Drop-off can also be done at the Metro Market at 11158 N. Port Washington Rd. in Mequon, and Congregation Beth Israel; Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue; Beth Hillel Temple (Kenosha); Congregation Beth Israel Sinai (Racine); Congregations Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, Emanu-El of Waukesha, and Knesses Israel (Green Bay); Lake Park Synagogue; Temple Menorah; and Congregations Shalom and Sinai.

After the contents of the bins are collected and sorted, they will be distributed on April 1, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Helfaer Community Service Building, 1360 N. Prospect Ave.

The goal is to make it possible for families in need to enjoy a Passover seder with the traditional foods. Foods most needed include: Matzah, packaged matzah ball and matzah ball soup mix, dessert mixes, jarred gefilte fish, grape juice, and others.

In lieu of food donations, interested persons may send a check payable to “Jewish Community Pantry” with the notation “Children’s Passover Campaign” to Dorene Paley (414-967-8217) at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Milwaukee, 53217.

The Jewish Community Passover Food Drive is a joint effort of the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, the JCC, Hillel Milwaukee, Jewish Community Pantry, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Home & Care Center, the Rabbi Scheinfeld Maos Chitim Fund, Tikkun Ha-Ir of Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin Council of Rabbis.
