Ed Goldman of the Horenstein-Katz Post No. 701 of the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. has compiled records of all the Wisconsin Jews who died in military service between 1918 (World War I) and 1997.
According to information provided by Peter Gilbert, adjutant for the Horenstein-Katz Post, Goldman began his compilation in 1992 and has amassed more than 300 pages of material.
All of this data along with a computer CD listing each page was given to the Jewish Museum Milwaukee. In addition, a CD has been given to each Milwaukee-area JWV post and to the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs.
Goldman’s sources for research included 75 years of microfilm records, two volumes of obituaries from 1921–1996, volumes from publications of the 150th anniversary celebration of Milwaukee’s Jewish community, many sources on the Internet, the Wisconsin Jewish Genealogy Guild, and the Milwaukee Personal Ancestral File User Group, among others.
