Goodman is semi-finalist as ‘Jewish Community Hero’

Jake Goodman — a Madison native raised in Milwaukee, now of New York City — is a semi-finalist as a “Jewish Community Hero,” an honor bestowed by the Jewish Federations of North America.

There are 20 semifinalists, ten “career heroes” and ten “volunteer heroes.” Goodman, an actor and educator formerly active the in the Jewish education effort Storahtelling (see Chronicle, Feb. 16, 2007), is a “volunteer hero” according to the Jewish Communities Heroes website (www.jewish communityheroes.org).

According to the profile on this site, Goodman was nominated for his human rights work that emphasizes “tolerance and open communication and understanding between people of different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, political persuasions, and sexual identities.”

The site further states that the winners will be announced Dec. 7. The Jewish Community Hero of the Year will receive $25,000 and four finalists will receive $1,000 to support their work within the Jewish community.
